Birdlip Limestone Fm of the Jurassic Aalenian Age 174-170Ma, a very fossiliferous assemblage. Gypsum crystals abounding in the overlying mudstones.

Friday to Sunday, 14th-16th June
The Mendips
The Leader was Dr Martin Whiteley, recently of The University of Derby
Strata range from the Silurian Coalbrookdale Formation, through Devonian and Carboniferous, to the Jurassic and Triassic
The Leader provided a minibus to carry attendees during the two days of investigation
An informal keynote presentation was given on Friday evening.
In Saturday's rain, Burrington Combe was explored; and the Banwell Bone Cave. Other Devonian, Carboniferous and Triassic locations were also visited.
Carboniferous and Jurassic locations, including Mells and Vallis Vale were explored on Sunday, the final day.

Cancellations and postponements curtailed this seasons activity: visits being transferred into the 2020 season.
